Joseph responds to Susan Rice’s withdrawal

US Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice today announced she would withdraw her name from consideration to be the next Secretary of State. Below is my response to that news.

Today Ambassador Susan Rice announced she would ask President Barack Obama not to nominate her as the next Secretary of State. I couldn’t be more disappointed with this turn of events and outraged at the circumstances that brought us to this day. Secretary Hilary Clinton has been an outstanding leader for the American people. She has stood up for our ideals at home and abroad. Susan Rice has done the same as our voice at the United Nations. That she, a world-renowned leader with impeccable background, could be used as a political toy is the latest sign of a political system that is broken. Susan Rice will go on to be the great UN Ambassador she has been for years. What concerns me and should concern other Americans is the void that will be left since she can’t even be considered for this role.
