The Young Democrats of Maryland applaud final passage of legislation in the General Assembly to make voting in our state easier. The true testament of a democracy is how informed and involved her citizens are in governing that democracy. What we have seen in the last two presidential elections is that all too often government makes it difficult to fulfill that promise. The legislation that won final approval today in the legislature will expand the number of open early voting sites across the state. Additionally it will allow individuals to register to vote on the same day they actually vote. Passage of same-day registration is legislation the Young Democrats first endorsed in 2011 and again in 2012. We look forward to the bill being enacted into law.
