Today I was sad to learn that Donna Beck, a member of the Prince George’s County Board of Education, has resigned. Ms. Beck was first elected to the board as an at-large member in 2006. She later when to represent the 9th District when the board moved to districts. Her commitment and service to the Prince George’s County Public Schools has been strong and dedicated. Her voice, even when we disagreed, will surely be missed.
With Donna Beck’s resignation there will be two vacancies on the newly revamped 13 member board. Former School Board Member Carletta Fellows resigned earlier this summer. Both vacancies will be filled by appointments by County Executive Rushern Baker. With these two new members the board, including the four new members, Baker will have appointed six of the 13 members. Baker’s appointee, both in this district and for Fellows’ seat, will serve in the post until a special election that is held during the next general election, in 2014.
