County to pay tribute to its 5th County Executive

UPPER MARLBORO, MD –  Today, the Office of Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III announced that former Prince George’s County Executive Wayne K. Curry, who passed away last week, will lie in state at the Prince George’s County Administration Building, (CAB) 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive in Upper Marlboro, MD onWednesday, July 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The event will begin with brief remarks from Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, Prince George’s County Council Chairman Mel Franklin (D-District 9) Judge Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, Administrative Judge for Seventh Judicial Circuit and Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, and Reverend Perry Smith. Attendees are encouraged to park at Show Place Arena, 14900 Pennsylvania Ave, in Upper Marlboro, MD.

Wayne K. Curry served two terms as Prince George’s County Executive from 1996-2002.  As Prince George’s County’s first African American County Executive, Mr. Curry was a visionary who was devoted to the County and raised the standards of its profile locally and nationally.  From National Harbor to FedEx Field, Wayne Curry laid the foundation for modern-day Prince George’s County.  Wayne K. Curry is the first Prince George’s County Executive to pass away since the County changed to an charter form of government in 1971.  To learn more about the life and legacy of Wayne K. 8:30 a.m.: Arrival of former County Executive Curry’s casket on Courthouse side of CAB
9:00 a.m.: Remarks by Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, Prince George’s County Council Chairman Mel Franklin (D-District 9) Judge Sheila R. Tillerson Adams, Administrative Judge for Seventh Judicial Circuit and Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, and Reverend Perry Smith
9:20 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.: Public visitation
